Democracy Support Programme in Moldova in cooperation with the National Institute of Justice organises training-of-trainers on torture prevention
Chisinau, 27 September 2010 – The standards for prevention and combatting ill-treatment and impunity are the focus of a training - of - trainers (ToT), organised in the framework of the Democracy Support Programme in Moldova, a joint initiative between the European Union and the Council of Europe in cooperation with the National Institute of Justice.
A five-day event, which commenced today, brings together some 30 judges, police officers and prosecutors to create a core group of national trainers on the European Court of Human Rights and the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture standards for combating ill-treatment and impunity that will subsequently provide cascade seminars to their peers.
It is hoped that the course will enable participants to develop an understanding of torture and ill-treatment and introduces participants to the key international and regional instruments that are concerned with torture and ill-treatment.
The skills of investigating, monitoring, and interviewing will be studied through practical exercises and assignments.
This training session is an essential component of the Joint Programme’s efforts in combating torture and ill-treatment and promote human rights awareness in Moldova.
The training is conducted by two international experts – Mr. Eric Svanidze and Mr. Henry Lovat with participation of a national expert Mr. Vlad Gribincea.
