Deputy Secretary General launches Action Plan to support democratic reforms in the Republic of Moldova
Chișinău, 14 March 2014
The Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni, and the Moldovan Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Natalia Gherman, today launched the Council of Europe Action Plan to support democratic reforms in the Republic of Moldova.
The Action Plan includes 23 projects and has a total budget of €18 million. It was adopted by the Committee of Ministers in November 2013, and represents a comprehensive and coherent package of co-operation to support bringing national legislation, institutions and practice in line with Council of Europe standards.
At the launching event, the Deputy Secretary General said: "What we are launching today is a joint product developed in partnership with the Moldovan authorities, a work plan responding to the country's own reform aspirations and European integration agenda. Ultimately, as in everything the Council of Europe does, the success of the Action Plan is largely dependent on the active involvement and commitment of the relevant authorities to its implementation." “The Moldovan authorities are the ultimate owners of the plan and Moldovan society will be the ultimate measure of its success”, she added.
During her visit to Chișinău, the Deputy Secretary General met with representatives of the authorities, international community and civil society to discuss the Action Plan in detail. |
