Study visit to the Council of Europe and European Court for Human Rights for the staff members of the Center for Human Rights of Moldova (Ombudsman Institution)(2 – 4 September, Strasbourg, France 15 participants)
The event was a part of a series of capacity building activities for the staff of the Moldovan Ombudsman Institution and had the purpose to enhance the institutional capacities for an effective implementation of the ECHR including its case law in the daily activity of the Centre for Human Rights of Moldova through raising of its staff awareness of the importance of a uniform application of the ECHR and the ECtHR case law as well as of other CoE Human Rights bodies. The participants visited and got familiarised with the mandate and activity of such CoE bodies as European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, European Committee of Social Rights, European Commission for Democracy through Law, European Commission against Racism and Intolerance, Anti-discrimination and Social Cohesion Department, Committee on Bioethics. As a result the members of the Ombudsman staff increased their knowledge on the Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings, its implementation, monitoring mechanism, reporting procedure of member states and the role of Ombudsman institution; on the European Code of Social Security, its principles, mechanism of implementation and the role of the Ombudsman, possible role of the Moldovan Ombudsman in the promotion of the Code for signature by the Moldovan Government; on the Oviedo Convention, Members States’ obligations under it and Ombudsman’s contribution to its implementation etc. and will be able to apply this knowledge in their daily work. |
